Did you know? Cyber-crime has increased in Nepal by 59%. If you want to protect yourself and others from online threats, you might be interested in a cyber security training program offered by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
KMC is gearing up to provide cyber security training to 4000 people as part of its pride project “रोजगारी र आय वृद्धि, काठमाडौँको समृद्धि” (Employment and Economic Enhancement of Prosperity of Kathmandu). The pride project has a goal to train 15,000 people and get 5,000 people employed.
The cyber-security training is going to be conducted in collaboration with EC Council and GAP Technologies. It will be formally launched on January 16.
EC Council is a global leader in cybersecurity certification and training, which offers Certified Ethical Hacking training and certifications. Through this collaboration, a scholarship worth Rs 5 crore will be provided to the participants.
Cyber security skills are in high demand, and those with these skills can get jobs easily.
Engineer Shailendra Jha, a member of the Urban Planning Commission, says, “Through this training, students and professionals who are willing to work for cyber security will be provided knowledge and skills to protect themselves and others from cyber risks.”
Reports have shown that cyber crime has increased by 59 percent in Nepal last year. The training will contribute to strong and efficient cyber security to control such crimes.
According to Jha, the challenge of cyber security has increased as people’s access to the Internet has increased. General users of smartphones also need Internet security related knowledge. However, many individuals are not yet aware about this. He says, “Others may be misusing your personal information without your knowing of it. This training aims to build manpower required in this sector.”
According to Shanta Pahari, the focal person of the program, the training for software development, virtualization, digital marketing, and professional accounting have already started. Pahari says, “We are providing training in 34 different categories. We will add other types of training based on needs and demand.’
In cyber security training, participants will be taught about the risks related to smartphones, messages and information received in emails, internet connected devices and applications used in them, and how to mitigate the risks.
In the training, participants will learn basic programming, networking, data storage on cloud, web application development, and more. The participants will gain skills in risk management, data analysis, business communication, and good governance, and have a chance to get a job in the growing and lucrative cybersecurity sector.
